The range of Hyaluronic acid fillers can be used to smooth away wrinkles and fine lines, create fuller and more accentuated lips, and adding facial volume and contour –this results in a softer facial expression.
Restylane® is natural cosmetic dermal filler that is composed of non-animal based hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in your body that maintains hydration and adds volume to your skin. It is developed from streptococcus bacteria which is purified, sterilized, and then chemically stabilized into a clear gel. Aging causes your skin to lose important components such as collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin resulting in loss of skin volume, elasticity and wrinkle formation. Restylane® rejuvenates and restores the skin, making it smooth and younger looking.
Uses of Restylane® injection include:
Restylane® is injected under your skin with a very fine needle. Topical or local anesthesia may be used to minimize the discomfort during the injection procedure. You may have slight stinging and burning sensation during the injection. Once the gel has been administered, it integrates into the dermis and binds water and gradually reabsorbs over time. Therefore follow up treatment at 6 to 12 month intervals may be required to keep up the results.
For wrinkle correction it is injected below the wrinkle and for lip enhancement it is directly injected into and around the lip. You will be able to resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure.
The most common side effects of Restylane® injections include pain, swelling, and redness at the injection site. Most of these side effects are mild, rare and temporary lasting for up to 1 week. You may also have lip swelling, discomfort and small bumps at the site of injection. Hypersensitivity may also occur in some individuals. Rarely, a severe inflammatory reaction known as a granuloma can form which may require surgical treatment.
Because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, there is low incidence of allergic reaction and no skin testing is required before the treatment.
Soft tissue fillers are substances that have the ability to fill and restore the changes that occur from aging. These changes include loss of volume, fullness and appearance of wrinkles in the face. This happens due to a decrease in the underlying collagen, elasticity and hyaluronic acid in the skin. The changes are commonly seen around the eyes, jaw line, cheeks, mouth and around the nose.
Soft Tissue Fillers injected into the skin can temporarily:
One example of soft tissue filler is called Perlane. It is made up of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid and is very safe to use. Hyaluronic acid simply supplements the body’s age-depleted hyaluronic acid which naturally diminishes with age. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for giving volume to our skin and giving eyes their shape. It is also essential for lubricating our joints. Replacing the lost hyaluronic acid to the skin helps to restore its volume and appearance and makes the skin appears youthful again making it an ideal product for the face.
Prior to the procedure, the face is cleansed and your doctor will mark points on your face as a guide for the injections. Injections are usually given in the doctor’s office.
A topical numbing agent or local anesthetic agent is used to ensure comfort during the procedure. The filler is injected directly into the area to be treated with a very small needle. You may experience some stinging or a burning sensation during the process. The procedure involves a series of sessions.
After the procedure, you may experience some temporary swelling, minor bruising or redness at the site of injection. Makeup can be applied immediately after treatment. The changes last for months to years depending upon the area of treatment and the type of fillers used. In some cases touch-up treatments or maintenance is required for achieving the best results.
Juvederm® is injectable dermal filler used to rejuvenate your aging skin and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds. It is made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in your body that maintains hydration and add volume to your skin. Juvederm® provides the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid available in dermal filler, which gives results that are long-lasting. It also creates a smooth gel that flows easily into the skin and produces a smooth, natural look and feel.
Juvederm® has been FDA approved and is indicated for restoring skin volume and smoothening facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds (the folds running from the sides of the bottom of the nose to the outer corners of the mouth). It can also be used to treat fine lines, crow’s feet (little lines on the side of the eyes), frown lines, acne scars, forehead creases, and dark under eye circles. In addition to this it can also be used for lip augmentation, to rejuvenate the aging skin, and to make up for the fat loss in the face. It is also safe and effective for people with darker skin color.
Juvederm® comes in two different forms, Juvederm® Ultra and Juvederm® Ultra Plus. Juvederm® Ultra provides volume and fills wrinkles in the facial area. Juvederm® Ultra Plus can be used for providing volume and correcting deep folds and wrinkles.
Benefits of Juvederm® include:
Juvederm® is injected using a fine needle into the area to be treated. It is infused with lidocaine which further reduces the discomfort during the injection procedure. To decrease the risk of bleeding at the injection site, you may be recommended not to take other medications such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) the week before the injection session. Following the injection, an ice pack may be applied to the treated area in order to prevent swelling.
After the procedure
After the procedure some patients may experience pain, redness, tenderness, swelling, bruising, or itching, lumps and bumps and discoloration. All of these adverse effects are usually mild and temporary, lasting less than seven days. There may also be a risk of infection, as seen with all skin injection procedures.
In the first 24 hours following the injection your doctor may recommend you to avoid excessive sun or heat exposure, any strenuous exercise, and alcoholic beverages in order to decrease the risk of developing temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites.
